David F. Cowan (Past President)
David F. Cowan was born on Maple Ave in Altamont two houses down from his future wife Francis Eliza Cowan. He and his family soon moved to a farm on the outskirts of town. David and his younger brother Robert and their parents Edna and Milliard suffered along with the rest of the country during the great depression, but being in a small town like Altamont they were more sheltered from reality. After the war broke out David enlisted and soon found himself in England Navigating a B-17 "Flying Fortress" on bombing runs over Nazi held Europe. After the war in the Japanese theater had ended he returned to Altamont and starting courting Ms. Francis Severson the daughter of Milliard Severson. They soon wed, My Grandfather told my Grandmother "we'll try it for a year" well that "year" lasted over 62 years. David soon became a underwriter for Utica Mutual and not long after that he went to work as a agent for Milliard Severson (Founder and his wife's father)
After learning the ropes David took over full control of the business in 1958. He soon incorporated and led the business into many successful years. David truly loved his job and would always take time to take a call when at home with his wife, three daughters and son. His passion for cars and anything with a engine were passed down to his children especially David who soon became fascinated with them also. Read about David E. Cowan on his page.
